SOUL SYMPHONY - CUTSCENE DIALOGUE CHAPTER 1 Narrator: chapter one. after the white silence, the queen still sleeps in glass. King: the king says the sky can only be soothed by a true lullaby. King: but the lullaby cannot be played without the meadow instrument. Queen: it is called the cradle reed, hidden beyond the marching meadow. King: bring it home, and we can wake the world without breaking it again. Queen: go now. the first note is waiting where the green winds turn gold. King: the meadow gate opens for us. we will wait inside the morning song. Narrator: and the king and queen became two bright notes, drawn home into the light. CHAPTER 2 Narrator: chapter two. above the meadow, the sky opened one terrible eye. King: that is no star, little one. the sky grief has grown a face. Queen: it watched us cross the gate. it has been waiting for the song. Queen: it falls a little closer every night the lullaby stays unsung. Narrator: the old palace lit its lanterns, bracing the dark with borrowed dawn. King: we will hold the gate and wind the great clock one more turn. Queen: and if the clock runs out, my love, what then will hold the sky. King: then we will hold it ourselves, as we did when the world was young. Queen: three dawns remain. after that, not even sleep will save the sky. King: seek the deep instrument, the tide horn, under the drowned bell. Queen: listen for the bell at low tide. the drowned still ring it for the lost. Narrator: and the moon leaned closer to listen, grinning, patient as the end. CHAPTER 3 Narrator: chapter three. the reed was found, the horn was raised from the drowned bell. Narrator: and in the high court of the old palace, the song began to remember itself. King: stand with me. the sky listens best when we keep the old measure. Queen: one, two, three, four. the world walked to this beat before it had a name. Narrator: the court orchestra woke, string by string, bell by bell, breath by breath. King: softly now. let the meadow reed carry the first light of the lullaby. Queen: listen. it remembers the morning song. it remembers us, my love. Narrator: and for one held breath, the terrible eye above seemed almost to close. King: now the horn. let the deep tide answer the meadow, wave to reed. Queen: the song is nearly whole. one more instrument and the sky will sleep. Narrator: but far beyond the hills, a cold light tore the dark like a slow knife. Queen: my love. the sky is not falling. something is being thrown. King: it struck the silent mountain. we must go and see what the dark has sent. Narrator: then the music stopped. and the old palace folded itself into the light. CHAPTER 4 Narrator: chapter four. the gate behind the mountain did not lead to the mountain. Narrator: it swallowed them into the long throat of the sky, where light runs backward. King: hold my hand. the old charms are watching us pass. Queen: bronze drums below, paper seals above. someone prayed this road into being. Narrator: then the water rose up singing, wearing a mask of pearl and rain. Water Spirit: little bearers of the song, the deep remembers you. pay the toll of one true note. Fire Spirit: and the flame remembers the ash. sing wrong, and the road burns short. Queen: then hear the lullaby as far as we have carried it. Narrator: the spirits coiled together, water braiding fire, a wheel of steam and embers. King: the charms bow. the road opens. remember their faces when the sky asks who helped us. Narrator: but at the far mouth of the wormhole, the cold light was already waiting. Narrator: it had been waiting since before the drums. and it knew their names. CHAPTER 5 Narrator: chapter five. the cold light did not wait any longer. King: stay behind me. no - beside me. Queen: always beside you. sing sharp, strike bright! Narrator: the first clash tore the dark in half. King: it knows our names. make it forget! Queen: again! aim for the seam of its light! Narrator: water and fire remembered them. the old charms burned in their wake. King: now! both of us - one note, one blade! Narrator: the deep remembers you, little bearers. and so do we. Narrator: and for one frozen breath, the whole sky held still. Queen: THIS is the song we carried! King: let it end in light! Narrator: the cold light cracked. and softly... it forgot their names. Narrator: snow fell upward. the long night finally breathed out. CHAPTER 6 Narrator: chapter six. after the light forgot them, the road rested. Narrator: the castle pieces they had lost found them again, and built a room between worlds. King: where... are we? the walls are breathing. Queen: the floor is singing in colors. i know this song from somewhere. Narrator: the letters they had dropped in three worlds orbited them like patient moons. Narrator: and then, out of the warm dark, something small politely coughed. Daemon: oh! guests! i am the daemon of the in-between. i keep the letters you drop. Daemon: please do not be afraid. fear tastes terrible with tea. King: a demon? ...a friendly one? Daemon: friendliest in eleven dimensions. i sorted your alphabet. you are missing a few. Queen: then we will find them. will you light the way, little keeper? Daemon: i thought you would never ask. mind the ceiling. it giggles. CHAPTER 7 Narrator: chapter seven. the daemon opened a door where the ceiling used to giggle. Narrator: beyond it, a sea of sleeping stars lay flat and still as glass. Daemon: we fly from here, little bearers. mind your wake - the stars are dreaming. King: the sky has a floor... and our shadows are swimming in it. Queen: look - lanterns. someone lit the way across the night. Narrator: far off, a train of light crossed the water without a sound. Daemon: your lost letters roost along the river of stars. sing as you catch them! Narrator: each letter they gathered rang once, and stayed lit inside the song. King: it is the lullaby! it is teaching itself back to us, note by note! Queen: then let the whole sky learn it with us! Narrator: the galaxy turned its great wheel, slow as a music box winding. Daemon: hold the chord! the door home is at the middle of the music! Narrator: and together they dove, laughing, into the bright heart of the wheel. Narrator: the stars closed warm around them like water. and the song went on. CHAPTER 8 Narrator: chapter eight. the wheel turned, and the road home opened like an eye. Narrator: the sky remembered every piece it had ever taken. Daemon: letters! formation! the lullaby flies home tonight! King: the palace! it is coming back - piece by piece, beam by beam! Queen: then let it land on music. nothing lands softer. Narrator: and the old walls crossed the stars like comets coming home to roost. King: every road we walked is singing inside this one! Daemon: louder, little bearers! the dark is listening politely for once! Queen: sky! you kept our song safe. now keep our home! Narrator: the great eye above looked down one last time... Narrator: ...and, very gently, it smiled and went to sleep. King: it is over. no - it is beginning. Queen: come home, love. the lullaby knows the rest. Narrator: and the palace lit its lanterns, and the night, at last, was kind. Narrator: then the kind night did what kind nights do: it threw a festival. King: fireworks! wait - are those our letters exploding? gently?! Daemon: they volunteered! letters are dramatic. it is why i keep them. Narrator: a dragon of paper light came looping down the stairs of the sky. Queen: the wheel! ride the great wheel with me, my love! Narrator: and the king and queen of the soul symphony danced in the air. King: every step we ever rolled, every wall we ever bounced from - Queen: - every note we dropped and found. it is all here. it is all singing. King: little keeper, what happens to the song tomorrow? Daemon: tomorrow it wakes up hungry, as songs do. you will feed it new roads. Narrator: the dragon bowed. the wheel slowed. the lanterns leaned in to listen. Queen: one more verse. together. for the roads we have not met yet. Narrator: and the whole sky sang the lullaby back to them, word for word. Narrator: goodnight, little bearers. the song keeps watch. it always did.
